Understanding Auto Insurance Coverage: What Do You Really Need?
Written By: Feliciano Jiron
Many new auto insurance buyers have many questions, and the top of that list of questions is what type of insurance do I truly need to cover my vehicle. A quick rule of thumb is, if you are financing/making payments you will need full coverage per your purchase/lender agreements. If you own the vehicle and have paid it off, you have choices to maintain full coverage or purchase liability coverage/minimal requirements by law. Ultimately it is up to the consumer to determine their coverage needs as well as affordability considerations.
Different car insurance options to consider?
- Liability Coverage: Covers Payment for injuries as well as property damage you cause to others in an accident.
- Collision Coverage: Provides coverage for damage to your vehicle, from a collision whether you are at fault or not.
- Comprehensive Coverage: Provides coverage when non-collision damages occur. Such as natural disasters, theft or vandalism.
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Is protection, should you get into an accident with a driver who has no insurance or not enough coverage
- Personal Injury Protection: Provides medical expenses for you and your passengers, when an accident occurs.
